One week

I actually started feeling much better on Friday. The incision still reminds me it's there when I stand up too quickly but other than that I'm pretty much back to my old self again. I got lots of rest, caught up on movies (and Season 3 of Weeds), and finally got all my photos and crap backed up.

Back to work tomorrow...same as it ever was.

The twins

The twins

So...well there they are. My twins. Apparently they've been there for a while but were only recently found due to a CAT scan for something else. These little devils packed my ovary pretty tight, and as a bonus they found a benign tumor in there too, and most likely that's what spawned these suckers. So the doctor took my right ovary and cauterized my fallopian tube.

My hypothesis is these buggers may be the reason why we've been unsuccessful in trying to get pregnant these past 4 years. My left ovary is fine...so maybe? Or not? We're both fine either way so we'll see.

My stay at St. Peter's was wonderful - from the intake desk to pre-op, recovery, and post-op everyone was so kind and professional. My doctor was so wonderful, and he made me laugh when he said he'd had his coffee and was good to go.

I'm relieved it's finally over and recovery seems to be going well. I'm tired and my belly button area hurts, but to be up and walking around so soon after surgery is fantastic.

Thanks to everyone for the phone calls and well wishes. Thanks for the love. And huge thanks and love to my wonderful husband who was a champ through the whole thing and is spending his week taking care of me :) Love you...

What a weekend.

Our poker party for my friend's birthday went really well - even in my slightly drunken state I seemed to play better than normal and it was really great to have a houseful of people whom I enjoy spending time with.

Then we spent today at McChord at the airshow - my sister-in-law had VIP tickets so we sat in the shade and nom'd on free food and drinks. I hadn't really been up since my departure from working there 2 years ago. For the most part I have fond memories of the time I spent there so it was nice to be close to the flightline again and see my birds in action.

Tonight we hit the Lakefair fireworks - they were beautiful as always and even though we got there late I got my camera hooked up in a nice spot. I managed to get a couple of good shots but it's still apparent that the Sony and I are bonding. Ah well, so it goes.

Tomorrow is my surgery. I sit here not knowing the outcome - hoping that I'm worrying too much - and am really thirsty because it's after midnight but I can't consume anything. I hope it goes well. I can't wait until I know how it went instead of waiting for it...

Favorite toy

I spent part of Sunday afternoon with a friend and her adorable 6 month old son. This was our 3rd shoot - the first being her maternity shots and the second being his 3 month photos.

I like a few of the shots I took but there were factors not working in my favor:

First off, new camera. The Sony and I are still getting used to each other and that really showed.

Second was the sun - the baby was in the shade and I was able to compensate for the most part but it kind of threw me off.

The third was the cuteness factor. I was able to shoot the belly shots well enough back in December but this time I was so distracted by his overall adorableness that it was hard to focus on the task at hand.

This shot is one of my favorites...

Ticket

We've been Izzard fans since...hell...almost 10 years ago is it? Back when Matty and I were in college and DtK was all over HBO. Good times. We've carried his words with us all this time through moves and our ups and downs, and Eddie has always made us smile.

So we've wanted to see him live forever but the timing never worked before now. Luckily we bought these tickets back in March via presale on eddieizzard.com. The seats turned out to be excellent! We were about 9 rows back and could see the whole show so clearly.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. We got into Seattle around 5:30 and parked near the Paramount. We headed to the secret spot, the same place where we met Lewis Black, and hoped luck would be with us again.

Since it was so early we took a quick survey around and headed across the street to Bambuza to get some food (and drinks!). Dinner was excellent but I couldn't focus - I was so afraid we'd miss him.

So after a speedy dinner consisting of ginger chicken, honey glazed chicken and rice, and 2x tall rum and cokes we headed back to our hangout.

About 40 minutes later a slender figure in a baseball cap walked by. Matty said "is it..." and I just sat there, unable to move. Luckily the roadie stopped him to chat and in that moment my wonderful husband walked over and asked him if we could get a photo :) If it hadn't been for the roadie or Matty being able to speak when I couldn't...well I would have regretted that moment forever.

He stopped inside the door and motioned for us to come over. He removed his cap and tousled his hair (he'd been walking quite a biut in the hot summer sun it seemed) and joked that he hoped he looked okay. We said he looked great, lol. Another roadie took my camera and snapped the shot. Matty shook his hand, as did I, and we took the moment to tell him how much we adored his work. I said "have a great set tonight" and then he looked me in the eyes, smiled, and disappeared inside.

I must have asked for the camera 20 times afterwards just to look at our photo. It was definitely one of those moments we'll never forget.

So we headed inside for the show. I bought a Cake or Death coffee mug and off we went to find our glorious seats. He was funny and charming. I took photos with my big camera until security came by and said "no photos" which was dumb - the sign on the front door said no flash photography and I had the flash firmly in the off position. But whatever. We sat back and enjoyed the show. I'll just say I'll never watch tennis quite the same again.

After it was over we'd hoped to perhaps get an autograph (because in my moment I had no foresight to bring out the Sharpie and DtK DVD in my camera bag...) but Eddie said he was tired and would do a Q&A instead. I have a bit of it here but the camera angle is off so be prepared to tilt your head to the left.

All in all it was worth every moment and dollar spent to get there last night. I'm still so thrilled we got to meet him and shake his hand!

Cherry tree

I must have spent at least a couple of hours up the ladder in the tree picking cherries. I ended up with moss and bits of twig in my hair but I was happy. It reminded me of being a kid again and all the hours spent at Grandma's house doing the exact same thing.

Ah, bliss.
