Matty and I both ended up with a 4 day weekend so we decided to take a Valentine’s mini-break up to Vancouver and the surrounding areas. We had an absolute blast getting lost, almost getting trampled in the Olympics crowds, seeing the flame up close (well, through a fence, but still), stopping at my favorite jade store in Gastown, and shopping for swag. Vancouver is a fun and beautiful city and we always have a wonderful time there.
Afterward we came back home to the US and stayed at the Silver Reef casino for the night. Excellent trip! Thanks Matty for a wonderful time. XO.

Matty and I have a tradition – in times of trouble, indecision, or when we just need some clarity we literally “take it to the mountain”. This weekend’s mountain of choice was Mount St. Helens.
See those trees? They look like toothpicks. They’re high upon a mountaintop way away from humans and civilization and are a reminder of the destruction that happened almost 30 years ago.

This is the trail at Windy Ridge. See that tiny little line? That’s the trail. One false step and AAAAHHHHH down the ravine you go. We got a bit past the snow on the right and turned around.

In this photo you can see a bit of the newly formed lava dome from last year’s eruption. The mountain is rebuilding itself slowly…or perhaps it will erupt again and start over from there? Destruction and rebirth – life and nature in its truest form.

But there’s something to be said for being so far up, so far away from everything, and feeling so small and insignificant that seems to bring everything back into focus. That’s what we found Sunday – a new path and direction. We decided how to proceed together in this search which has been years in the making. No matter what happens I have Matty at my side, and that’s what truly matters.
